Italy2000 – The Official Site for Our Trip

Italy map

1. While in Rome we saw the Colosseum and adjoining Forum, walked to Vatican City, Piazza Navona, The Ghetto, Tiber River, Piazza Nazionale, etc.

2. Our second stop was in Portovenere, a small village just south of the Cinque Terre region. We took a train to Monterosso, then a beautiful two-hour hike to Vernazza.

3. From Portovenere, we went north to Carimate, which is about 15 miles south of Lake Como. We stayed at an old castle, the Castello di Carimate, which dates back to the 1100s. We took an excursion to Lugano, Switzerland, where we rented a pedal boat and toured the lake. We also shopped for chocolate and other gifts.

4. From the northernmost area of Italy, we headed east to Venice. We stayed at a hotel that was originally built in the 1300s, and it was located on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge.

5. The last leg of the trip was to Florence. We saw the imitation statue of David, the Arno River, the Ubizi, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, etc.
